SEED PROJECTS

Omega International Ministries (OIM) has been involved in a number of seed projects over the years. Through our ministries and departments, we reach out to transform the communities as we win some to Christ.

The Nankinga Well Project: Historically, Nankinga village had no protected well or spring for many years. Being a swampy area, the water table as is common was high. The abundant springs, pools and channels were the major sources of water posing a health hazard for residents in the area.

The Men Ministry's of Omega Healing Centre joined hands with the local leadership to construct two protected springs; one that was personalized and the other one (which we constructed) from zero level to finishing level. The protected well currently serves about 60 homes. The two week project was launched by the then area Member of Parliament Hon. Steven Kavuma.

Road Maintenance: The road maintenance project is a regular activity done throughout the year. The project covers the feeder road that leads to the church premises from the main road and involves grading, leveling, pouring murram and building culverts to improve the drainage system.

Sports Ministry: Through the youth and sports departments coaches mobilize and engage the youth for various sport activities like soccer, volleyball, netball to guard them from indulging in other destructive habits. The five coaches have mobilized this group of young people into age groups and developed them into teams under twelve - U12; under 18, and under 25 soccer groups. Joining these soccer groups exposes these young people to mandatory bible studies, prayer times and counseling and a group of 120.

Food Rations: Through this program, 30 elderly, widowed senior citizens of our community benefit from food rations every month and clothing distribution.

The Health Seed Project: This project is run by the health professionals in our church. It is composed of health workers, nurses and doctors who volunteer their expertise to provide free medical check up and free medication to needy members of the church and residents in the neighboring community.

Health Care Day: This happens thrice a year where Christian doctors come together at the church premises and provide general health check ups, including eye check up and dental care. The last health care day the beneficiaries were mainly the people from our immediate neighborhood (Kabowa, Nyanama, Namasuba, Kikajjo, Ndejje, Zana and Bunamwaya)

Fumigation: Under the Sports and Youth Ministry, this program provides fumigation services to homes in our community plagued with rodents, cockroaches and jiggers. We visit such places to fumigate and help them acquire a mentality to overcome such plagues. In 2005 we conducted a free fumigation exercise covered the regions of Nyanama, Namasuba, Kikajjo, Ndejje and Zana.

Youth Arise seed project: The youth department is involved in helping orphanages during holidays. They visit orphanages to help do general cleaning and cooking and caring for the orphans for a whole day. The most frequented orphanage is the Dwelling Places found in Mutundwe- Bunamwaya in the suburbs of Kampala .

Abstinence Campaigns: The youth have a vibrant ministry. They have a program of reaching 40 schools every year with the gospel of abstinence packaged in games, skits, dramas etc.

Love in Action: This is an annual event through which the women in our church put resources and items like cloths, beddings, cutlery, and food stuffs together and they invite the less privileged people in our community and distribute these items to them as a demonstration of Christ's love to them.
